Battery Energy Storage System - Preston

We are pleased to announce we will be working alongside Gridtec Ltd in the construction of England's newest Energy Site. Gridtec Ltd is one of the UK's leading Independent Connection Providers (ICP) and Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contractors.

This project is for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for Lower 48 Energy group, located in Preston, England. Construction commenced in September 2024 and is set for completion and energisation at the end of 2025.

The BESS solution would utilise LFP chemistry of Lithium-Ion Batteries and comprise of 46 Container Units with 8 inverters, 8 transformers and a substation. The entire solution would be contained within an area of 2 acres.

The purpose of these BESS sites is to store excess electricity until sold into the National Grid to meet industrial or domestic electricity demands. These BESS assets help level out expensive peaks and troughs of electricity pricing caused by supply and demand imbalance.

Once energised, the project would hold the capacity to store and supply 66,000,000 kWh of electricity annually which is equivalent to supplying 22,750 households as an enabler technology for renewable generation and as a replacement for gas peaking plants.

The project would help reduce 17,500 metric tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere by substituting for gas peaking plants.
