We are proud to be working in close partnership with the Canal & River Trust to protect, restore and enhance the roof and surrounding areas of the National Waterways Museum.

Commencing at the end of January 2026 and scheduled for completion at the end of March, this carefully planned programme of works has been designed to safeguard the long-term integrity of the building while respecting its rich heritage. As the Museum celebrates the 50th anniversary year since opening its doors to the public in 1986, the timing of these improvements is particularly meaningful. The project not only preserves an important historic structure but also ensures it can continue to welcome visitors for generations to come.

Great care has been taken to adopt a sympathetic approach throughout, with materials and methods selected to complement the original character of the building. Protecting the fabric of a historic site requires attention to detail, craftsmanship and a deep understanding of traditional construction techniques—qualities our team brings to every stage of the refurbishment.

A key aspect of this project has been collaboration. We have been working closely with local Canal & River Trust apprentices, providing them with valuable, hands-on experience in a live heritage environment. Under the guidance of our experienced tradespeople and management team, the apprentices have developed practical skills, strengthened their understanding of best practice, and gained insight into the standards required on projects of this nature.

Their enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to learn have made them valued members of the site team. By investing in the next generation of skilled professionals, this project is not only restoring a historic landmark but also helping to build lasting expertise within the industry—ensuring that traditional skills and knowledge continue to thrive.
